Three restaurants have reshaped where locals in the Macungie area go to eat over the past two years, and only one of them sits inside the actual Borough of Macungie. The other two are a short drive away in two different townships, in addresses that don't always show up under a Macungie search or a Macungie zip code.
They are not. If a friend tells you there's a great new spot in Macungie, the next question worth asking is which Macungie they mean.
Three Governments, One Name
Macungie Borough is its own small, walkable municipality built around Main Street and Macungie Memorial Park, with its own council and its own zoning code. Lower Macungie Township wraps around the Borough's south and east side, covering far more land than the Borough itself. Upper Macungie Township sits to the north and west, stretching along the Route 222 and Hamilton Boulevard corridor toward Trexlertown and Wescosville. The Borough Renovation Nobody Could Rush
Trading Post on Main is the one true Main Street story here. The building at 102 E. Main St. dates to the 1840s and spent years as The Pub on Main before Steve and Misti Slaski bought it in December 2023 and signed a lease with owner Miguel Razon, who also runs the Taco Town food truck brand around Allentown. The renovation grew well past what anyone expected. As Steve Slaski put it during the project, "it's snowballed into bigger, bigger, bigger." The restaurant held its soft opening in the summer of 2024, and by now it has settled into the kind of routine a small town restaurant needs to survive: wing nights, a full bar, and regulars who know the bartenders by name. It is the only one of the three new restaurants you can walk to from Macungie Memorial Park.

The Restaurant Two Miles Away With an Allentown Zip Code
The Broken Record is the newest name most people are talking about, and it is not in the Borough at all. It sits at 6776 Hamilton Blvd. in Lower Macungie Township, in a strip center that also houses Redd & Co. Fine Jewelers. The restaurant is the project of Jeff Trainer, longtime owner of Wind Creek Event Center in Bethlehem, working with chef Taylor Eisenhard, previously of Griddle 145 in Whitehall Township, which closed at the end of 2025 so its team could move into this new one. Andrea Kenney, Trainer's partner in the project, said the goal was to make the space feel like an extension of Trainer's own taste rather than another generic dining room, explaining that "it needs to be more his personality than anything."
The Broken Record held its soft opening on December 30, 2025, with a limited dinner menu that expanded through the winter, and breakfast and lunch service arriving not long after. Search for it online today and you'll find it listed under Allentown, PA 18106, not Macungie, because Lower Macungie Township's mail routing in that section of Hamilton Boulevard runs through the Allentown postal zone. It's a short drive from Main Street, not a walk, and if you're searching strictly for "restaurants in Macungie," it may not surface at all. Thirty Years Ends on Route 222
The third opening is the farthest from the Borough core and the most recent to be announced. U-MAC Tavern is set for Ruppsville and Schantz roads in Upper Macungie Township, on the site of Sunset Grille, which closed in 2024 after more than 30 years under longtime owners Ron and Clairissa Pickering. New owner Emmanuel Teloniatis, who signed a lease on the property in early 2026, described plans to remodel the kitchen, dining room, and bar, along with a patio where guests could get coffee or soft-serve ice cream in warm weather. He was targeting a mid-May 2026 opening. This stretch of Upper Macungie feels more like the Route 222 commercial corridor near Trexlertown than anything resembling a downtown, which makes sense, since it is a different township with a different zoning pattern than the Borough itself.

Why the Border Actually Matters
